Agora as the keystone of digital civilization ⭕

The destination and potential of Cyber Sovereignty is clear. But how can such a revolution, in how we relate to each other, be started?

Boundless is working through Agora to make key goals of Cyber Sovereignty a reality.

Genesis

Everything starts with Agora. Agora is the keystone of digital civilization. Thousands of people will be invited to Agora to participate in a social experiment to demonstrate together the potential of digital civilization.

Agora’s goal is to create the most sophisticated form of social organization on the internet, to validate Synapse and to initiate the Cyber Sovereignty revolution.

Agora is broken up into a series of Demes, sub-communities within Agora which have even more specific values than the umbrella of Agora.

Those who seek citizenship in Agora will first become a resident of a particular Deme, which will be in charge of preparing them for citizenship. At the start most will complete this program with Agora Genesis.

As the other Demes grow, new residents will be able to select from a plethora of Demes to start their journey.

Education

Education is the most influential institution of human civilization. Modern higher education systems are also one of the facets of modern society most ripe for digital modernization. Universities have failed to bridge a meaningful gap between a degree and a career.

By targeting primarily people seeking to bridge that gap, Agora can connect with an entire generation of willing volunteers who benefit from their contribution to Agora's mission in the form of field experience.

These volunteers will help create the ecosystem of utility and value across multiple facets necessary to attract further citizens. To be clear, volunteers create applications which have valuable use cases to citizens and non-citizens alike that will help draw more people to Agora.

Social & software platform

The first project that Agora's volunteers will be organized to create is an operating system that lives entirely in the web called “Synapse”. This technology at its core is an operating system fundamentally about connecting people, while wrapping around that social experience the utilization of applications, making every action social.

At the core of the operating system is a social layer to all other applications. The default people-set at that core is defined by the digital society you are a member of.

It's a hub-and-spoke model in which a digital society becomes the social membrane to every other application one uses. Whether listening to music, working on a whiteboard, writing a document or playing a game, this operating system will make those experiences social and collaborative by default.

Applications

Each application will be plugged into the central social system, but be independent and stand-alone.

Value

Whereas education is ripe for disruption due to negligence, the independent software ecosystem is ripe for disruption due to a push for centralized control.

• App stores and other platforms act as gatekeepers and take huge parts of the application’s revenue to function; often 30% of every transaction.

• Centralized gatekeepers listen in on every conversation, extracting and monetizing people’s private data.

Boundless manifests its vision by creating within Agora a system in which the creators of applications once again benefit from their labor.

Unlike other internet-based systems, this technology will be fundamentally peer-to-peer, making it so that no intermediary is listening in on conversations or monetizing app-user transactions.

Careers

At the same time, Agora will be working with for-profit partners that enable the volunteers to find jobs and monetize their skillsets.

These independent partners will not only place individuals in existing careers, but will help others turn their ideas into businesses.

Startups

In turn, Agora will be seeking to empower application developers within its ecosystem to monetize their applications, not only within Agora, but outside of it.

In a world where every large company is seeking to become the gatekeeper of the internet to track and monetize every conversation, Agora will be encouraging the creation of this new peer-to-peer platform that puts application developers in charge of their own financial destiny.

To be clear, Agora will never be run for profit, but part of its objective is to prosper its citizens.

Unanswered questions

How will application developers within Agora's ecosystem enable usage of their application outside of residency within Agora?

• Applications built for Agora may represent Agora's values, for example, a video sharing application which only has wholesome videos. That does not mean that outside users will not want to use that application. Instead, the experience in the application will be more social with Agora. For example, you can see all the profiles of fellow Agorans, with your Deme highlighted.

• Other Polies will have the same social benefits.

Will Agora’s built-in currencies play a role?

How will Agora's values play into applications available to all themes or Polies?

Why would people build their application in Agora when that limits their potential substantially at the start?

If Synapse needs funding, how will that be funded?
